Welcome to Walkin' the Dog!
Pets have been a part of my life as far back as I remember; from a Beagle, fish, and gerbils when very young, to bringing home a stray puppy as an adolescent. Then, as a young adult, I rescued numerous cats, having as many as four at once. My love for animals grew more when leaving my regular career to work at an exotic animal park in Pittsburgh, and later at a wild animal rescue in Florida.
Joe, my husband-to-be at the time, introduced me to the Boxer breed when we decided to foster a mangy stray, which became known as the “Valerie story.” Years later, we moved with our two cats and her to Los Angeles. During our 10+ years there, we began volunteering with Boxer Rescue LA, and my heart grew ten times larger! As one Boxer passed, another one or two were added. Unfortunately, I lost Joe to cancer, so my Boxers joined me as I traveled back and forth, and down and up the country trying to figure out where to land. Eventually, Nikki and I made our way back home to Mt. Union, PA.
It is right here in Huntingdon County that I’ve found the
courage to see my passion for pets become my life’s
work. Animals have led me to so many positive relationships,
and I hope my next one is with your pets and you!
